Ornithology: AGM & Presentation on URBAN GULLS

Speaker: Peter Rock.   Venue: Westbury-on-Trym Methodist Church at 7:30.

Almost without exception our seabirds are in trouble.  Numbers in traditional locations on our coasts are declining and yet remarkably little is known about the causal factors underpinning the trends.  Insufficient food, industrial fishing techniques and injury or disease through plastic pollution are all candidates for blame.  Yet in our cities gulls are apparently thriving and, for some individuals and organisations, their presence embodies a problem that requires a solution.  The two main species involved here are the the red listed Herring gull and the amber listed Lesser black-backed gull.

Peter Rock has been studying urban gulls for about forty years and has become the ‘go-to’ expert on the issue.
