The Clive Lovatt Memorial Lecture 2022 will be delivered by Fred Rumsey on the theme:

‘The Continuing Discovery of our Native Flora’.

Fred will look at those native plants that were discovered or first identified during Clive’s lifetime, examining what they tell us about our abilities to spot things and also about changing opinions – as well as changing climate. There are some very interesting tales to tell about these plants and their discoverers, and a categorisation to be made along the lines of: remote, overlooked, cryptic, recent arrivals. This is sure to be a fascinating and thought-provoking talk.

Fred Rumsey is a past President of the British Pteridological Society, vice-president of the BSBI, council member of the British Bryological Society and, until his retirement in 2021, was a Senior Curator in charge of the British, Fern and Historic herbaria at the Natural History Museum in London. A field botanist with a passion for the British and Irish flora, he has particular interests in its evolution, discovery and conservation and he knew Clive Lovatt well.

Venue: Create Centre, B Bond, Smeaton Road, Bristol BS1 6XN.
