A visit to enjoy the rich meadow flora across some of the grasslands around Chew Valley Lake. Species in the area we will visit include Dyer’s Greenweed Genista tinctoria, Devil’s-bit Scabious Succisa pratensis, a variety of sedges and, particularly, a huge population of Green-winged Orchids Anacamptis morio, which should be at their spectacular best at this time of year. Access to this area is usually by permit only and we are grateful to Bristol Water Plc for giving us permission to visit.

Meet at the access track, east off the B3114 Chew Stoke to West Harptree road at ST55505974 (nearest postcode BS40 6NL, but beware this will take you up the lane opposite if followed completely). The gate, which is normally locked, will be open and there is ample parking within the lake enclosure.
