Despite its name, this wood is actually between Hanham Green and Longwell Green on the southeastern fringes of Bristol. We will examine the ground flora under a canopy predominantly comprising Beech Fagus sylvatica and Sycamore Acer pseudoplatanus, with a scattering of Holly Ilex aquifolium and some conifers. Although the wood lies on a steep south-facing bank, the paths are largely quite flat; however, please be aware that there are some brief steep sections and it is likely to be muddy in places as there are several seeps and streams. We will also explore some pockets of grassland on our way, as well as a stretch of Bankside vegetation along the river Avon.
Meet in the car park at the bottom of Ferry Road, by Hanham Mills, at ST64797000 (nearest postcode: BS15 3NU).
