Hengrove Mounds is an area of made-ground, the clay-rich soils having been colonised by a wide variety of ruderal and grassland plants. Although scrub has encroached across many areas, much of interest remains – including a healthy population of Narrow-leaved Bird’s-foot trefoil Lotus tenuis. As is often the case with urban sites, the unexpected has a habit of popping up.
Meet at the start of the path to the children’s adventure play area in Hengrove Park, off Hengrove Way (ST59366868; nearest postcode BS14 0BZ). There is plenty of parking at the nearby leisure/retail centre.
