When not busy being a popular seaside resort, Severn Beach has another life as a haven of botanical interest. As well as a wealth of saltmarsh vegetation such as Sea Arrowgrass Triglochin maritima and Common Sea-lavender Limonium vulgare, we should see the likes of Marsh-mallow Althaea officinalis – a rare species these days – and the wonderfully named Ploughman’s Spikenard Inula conyzae.
Meet by the sea wall at the end of Station Road (ST53868475; nearest postcode BS35 4PL). There is plenty of parking available in nearby streets, and of course the railway station is a mere 2 minutes’ walk away (the train from town arrives at 14:23).
