The Society has three regular publications that are available free to all members:

Bristol Naturalist News

Generally known as “The Bulletin” this is the Society’s monthly newsletter – our way of keeping all members in touch with key events and news. It is available to all members in either paper or electronic format and is published every month except for Dec/Jan and July/Aug which are produced as joint editions.

  • Details of Society and Section events happening each month, including joining instructions for meetings
  • Latest news regarding wildlife and geology seen locally
  • “Natty News” a selection of interesting items of news or discoveries that have appeared in recent scientific publications and the press
  • Information regarding the running of the Society
  • Details of other local events that may be of interest to members
  • Distributed to members 10 times per year

Nature in Avon

The Society’s journal provides a platform for all members to submit their findings as short reports or academic papers and also to report on and publicise projects and events occurring in the region. The journal also contains the Proceedings of the Society for the previous year.

  • Up to the minute reports and papers on the wildlife and geology of the local area
  • Authored by local experts in their fields
  • High quality photographs
  • The only publication of its type produced by any society locally
  • Distributed to members annually

Avon Bird Report 

The Avon Bird report is an award winning annual publication jointly funded by the Bristol Naturalists’ Society and the Bristol Ornithological Club

  • Species by species summary of the reports of every species found in the Bristol area
  • Papers summarising observations on the natural history and ecology of local birds
  • Annual report of bird ringing in the Bristol area
  • A selection of the year’s outstanding bird photographs
  • Distributed to members annually
