Littleton Warth offers a wide expanse of grazed saltmarsh, with fine views across to the Forest of Dean and down to the Severn Bridge, and a remote, untamed atmosphere. A good array of common saltmarsh plants should be visible in September and the Warth supports a particularly large population of Slender Hare’s-ear Bupleurum tenuissimum, an anomalous and nationally scarce member of the carrot family. Sea Clover Trifolium squamosum may prove harder to find amongst the swathes of Strawberry Clover Trifolium fragiferum, and we may also be fortunate enough to encounter a third nationally scarce species, the grass Bulbous Foxtail Alopecurus bulbosus. With the seawall supporting a few common grassland plants as well, there should be much to see.
Meet at car park at end of Whale Wharf Lane, ST588910 ///clincher.alive.begun, nearest postcode BS35 1NP.
