Situated in the heart of Bristol, this famous park may not be the most typical setting for a botany meeting but historically, Brandon Hill was once a botanical gem. Many famous botanists of past centuries making the special journey to St Vincent’s Rocks and Observatory Hill would also visit here. Though those days are long gone unfortunately and this is now largely an amenity space, certain pockets of interest remain and in the joyous spring surroundings and spectacular views all around, it is sure to be an eventful outing.

We will be keeping our eyes peeled for the diminutive Blinks Montia fontana. Common Stork’s-bill Erodium cicutarium exists on the steep slope below the fish ponds and Hare’s-foot Clover Trifolium arvense was recorded in the flowerbeds near the tower a few years ago by Rob Randall. Will we be able to locate its seedlings? It will of course also be in the midst of dandelion season!
Meet by the entrance on Great George Street, BS1 5QD at ST58007282, /// person.stocks.cheek
