This is an excellent trip for those who are new to geology. All will be explained and there will be lots of discussion! On May 1st, the tide seems favourable. Open to BNS members, associated geology societies and anyone who is interested. The terrain is rocky and in places muddy beach, for which stout shoes (preferably boots) and field clothing are needed. I would warn that it is not for those who may be unsteady on their feet because of the rocky shore. Walking poles are recommended.

The plan is as follows:
Morning, from 10:30: visit the Devonian (Old Red) fluvial sandstone succession, including two unconformities, calcretes & Portishead Fish Bed.
Lunch (BYO, or nearby cafés should be open, but I can’t guarantee)
Early Afternoon: The Early Carboniferous limestone and mudstone sequence with fossils and Variscan folding.
Snack break (BYO, or nearby cafés should be open, but I can’t guarantee)
Mid-late Afternoon, Late Carboniferous fluvial sandstones with plant fossils and thrust faulting. Hoping to finish around 16:00.
