Shirehampton Meadow is a small but glittering jewel of calcareous grassland nestled between the busy Portway and the muddy River Avon. As well as delights such as Long-stalked Cranesbill Geranium columbinum, pale St John’s-wort Hypericum montanum, Common Gromwell Lithospermum officinale, Common Rock-rose Helianthemum nummularium and Ploughman’s Spikenard Inula conyzae, there are two long-established patches of Wild Liquorice Astragalus glycyphyllos. The surrounding area holds much of interest too, so we may explore further.

Meet by the entrance to the meadow off the Portway at ST54347675, ///lonely.quiz.object Nearest parking is on Woodleaze, a six- or seven-minute walk away.
