Millipedes, Woodlice and Harvestmen. Speaker: Maico Weites. Venue: St Anne’s House.
Maico is a Bristol-based entomologist who works for the UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology. He is president of the BNS Invertebrate Section. Like most entomologists, butterflies were his gateway bugs, but he is looking at increasingly obscure groups.
Soil invertebrates are a neglected but very important group of animals that deserve more attention. In this talk Maico will discuss the ecology of millipedes, woodlice, and harvestmen, which species we can find in and around Bristol, how to identify them, and highlight some of his recent unexpected discoveries including a new species for the UK. Hopefully this will encourage other locals to give these animals the attention they deserve.
