At Ashton Hill Plantation. The varied topography and differing woodland types of this expansive site should offer a good selection of mosses and liverworts, including firm fan favourites such as Common Tamarisk-moss Thuidium tamariscinum, Catherine’s Moss Atrichum undulatum and Common Pouchwort Calypogeia fissa. There is also a magnificent stand of Sequoia Sequoiadendron giganteum – aka Giant Redwoods – to marvel at, a legacy of this place once being part of the Tyntesfield Estate (it is now managed by Forestry England). Bring a hand lens, ideally illuminated, and footwear that can withstand squidgy mud.

Meet in the car park off Belmont Hill/Weston Road ST51897104 ///thinks.called.sheets. Should this be full, there is plenty of space to park nearby in Failand.
