This wondrous limestone gorge with acidic drifts hosts an enticing selection of species, such as Carline Thistle Carlina vulgaris, Common Milkwort Polygala vulgaris, Pale St John’s-wort Hypericum montanum, Heath-grass Danthonia decumbens and Crested Hair-grass Koeleria macrantha, as well as the recently described species Fay’s Whitebeam Sorbus fayana. Common Twayblade Orchid Neottia ovata and Bird’s-nest Orchid Neottia nidus-avis have been recorded in the past. Will we manage find the scarce and elusive Soft-leaved Sedge Carex montana?
